What does the Middle East Learning Hub do?

The Middle East Learning Hub on MEAL and Faith, was launched in June 2022, following 9 months of coalition building and initial research.

The Hub brings together local, national, and regional actors – including researchers, faith organizations, and development and humanitarian practitioners – from Iraq, Lebanon,  Syria and Turkey with a shared interest in MEAL and faith. We are open to members from other countries in the region.

The Middle East Learning Hub provides a unique platform for actors in the region to explore how MEAL is practiced in partnerships with faith actors. A series of Listening Dialogues conducted with regional actors identified a paucity of guidance and evidence about the different ways MEAL can be adapted to better capture and share the work of local faith actors in the Middle East.

The Hub will be a horizontal learning space, where members can collectively identify gaps in knowledge and practice in MEAL and faith – both in their own organizations, and in their relationships with secular partners. Members will be able to collaborate on creating evidence to address those gaps; and support each other’s work through sharing best practice and capacity.

The Middle East Learning Hub was developed as part of JLI’s Fair & Equitable Initiative, which seeks to challenge unequal global power dynamics in the production of knowledge and evidence. Through building and supporting Regional Hubs, JLI hopes to shift power and resources to local, national, and regional actors, so that they can define and pursue their own evidence agendas.
