This field study report produced by Islamic Relief Worldwide’s advocacy team explores how extensive Female Genital Cutting (FGC) is within Indonesia. The study attempts to understand the drivers behind FGC with particular focus upon faith as a motivating factor, conducting research work in three of Indonesia’s communities; the Padang in West Sumatra province, Lombok in Nusa Tanggara Barat province and Jakarta.

The Field study concludes by offering recommendations to the international and local non-governmental organisations, faith-based organisations, the united nations and the Indonesian government about the importance of further awareness on the practice and its implications on women and communities.
