This report was commissioned by Sacred Heart College, and funded by the Breadsticks Foundation to better understand the conditions affecting access to education for migrant children in Johannesburg.

The Three2Six Education Project for Refugee Children at Sacred Heart College has been providing an afternoon bridging education programme for hundreds of refugee children since 2008. The project offers Maths, English and Life Skills and the aim is to prepare children to move into government schools. Refugee children encounter enormous barriers when trying to access state education, due to a combination of factors: a lack of information, access to finance, documentation and discrimination. The Three2Six Education Project has had moderate success in streaming children into mainstream education, but many of our children, despite being academically ready, are still struggling to gain access.
