This research brief attempts to contribute on the current challenge in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Based on a series of interviews with foreign fighters and their families, the researchers find that traditional approaches to stabilization and development are unlikely to address the reasons why Jordanians are joining as Daesh (also known as the Islamic State, ISIS and ISIL) or the Nusra Front (Jabhat al-Nusra), Syria’s Al-Qaeda affiliate.

Mercy Corps has worked in Jordan since 2003, addressing community challenges, such as growing water and energy scarcity and the rising needs of vulnerable people, including those with disabilities, women, children, youth, and refugees.
