This report produced by the Frontiers Programme explores why Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is linked with Islam. The practise of FGM among Somalis is investigated in this report and studies are carried out in the Mandera and Wajir districts and Nairobi’s Eastleigh area. It is brought to light that the practise is wrongly justified by constant use of terminology linked to Islam e.g. ‘Sunnah’ and misinterpretation of texts.
