About JLI

An international collaboration on evidence for faith actors’ activities, contributions, and challenges to achieving humanitarian and development goals. Founded in 2012, JLI came together with a single shared conviction: there is an urgent need to build our collective understanding, through evidence, of faith actors in humanitarianism and development.

Maurice A. Bloem, our CEO/President, was recently featured on the Crossing Faiths podcast in a compelling conversation with host John Pinna. The episode explores the mission of the JLI and its distinctive approach to leveraging data and evidence for just and sustainable development.

In the interview, Maurice discusses the importance of moving beyond traditional top-down models by incorporating local wisdom and inclusive, community-driven approaches. He also introduces the JLI’s innovative model for fostering growth, collaboration, and shared understanding.

The conversation highlights the vital role of faith-based organizations in development, grounded in long-standing community relationships and the centrality of faith in shaping identity. Maurice emphasizes the need for genuine listening, respectful dialogue, and addressing bias in a polarized world.

Maurice also hosts his own podcast, Walk, Talk, Listen, which features voices from around the globe working toward positive change. You can listen to the full Crossing Faiths episode here and explore all Walk, Talk, Listen episodes featuring JLI and its members here.
