About JLI

An international collaboration on evidence for faith actors’ activities, contributions, and challenges to achieving humanitarian and development goals. Founded in 2012, JLI came together with a single shared conviction: there is an urgent need to build our collective understanding, through evidence, of faith actors in humanitarianism and development.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the recent conference, Integrating ‘Faith’ into MHPSS: An Interdisciplinary Dialogue on Faith-Sensitive Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and Spiritual Care in Humanitarian Contexts. We appreciate that so many were able to join the sessions and contribute to the discussions.

For those unable to attend all sessions, recordings from the two-day event are available on the conference website. We encourage you to review the presentations at your convenience.

Next Steps and Resources

The discussions generated a number of ideas, and we are considering our next steps for continuing the conversations initiated during the event. We will share updates on how these conversations may be developed further.

In the meantime, we would like to draw your attention to the following resources:

  • The Spirit of Global Health: This book, available as open access, explores several themes from the conference, particularly regarding the World Health Organization’s engagement with spirituality.

  • Faith-Sensitive MHPSS and Spiritual Care: This open access article offers an in-depth look at the integration of faith into Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and Spiritual Care, complementing the topics discussed during the conference.

Additionally, Dr. Ellen Goodwin is working on a book focused on faith-sensitive MHPSS, which will analyze how faith is being integrated into the MHPSS interventions of international humanitarian organizations.

Contribute and Connect

f you are aware of any cases where faith-sensitive MHPSS has been implemented or have any questions, please contact Dr. Ellen Goodwin at [email protected]. Contributions from practitioners and researchers will help build on the insights shared at the conference.

Thank you again for your engagement, and we look forward to furthering these discussions.
