About JLI

An international collaboration on evidence for faith actors’ activities, contributions, and challenges to achieving humanitarian and development goals. Founded in 2012, JLI came together with a single shared conviction: there is an urgent need to build our collective understanding, through evidence, of faith actors in humanitarianism and development.

This event brought together representatives from academia, faith-based organizations, and international organizations to discuss “Strategic Religious Engagement in Development: What Does it Mean for the Philippines?” at Ateneo de Manila University on 12-13 August 2024. This meeting was part of a three-year project funded by the Templeton Religions Trust (TRT) and implemented by World Faiths Development Dialogue – WFDD (Project Lead), JLI, and Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs to understand more about the concept of “Strategic Religious Engagement” in development in countries around the world.

The two-day meeting focused on project implementation in the Philippines and invited experts to discuss experiences and ideas for improving religious engagement in development in the country. The meeting took place at the end of the project’s first year. During that time, the core project team worked with the Ateneo Policy Center at Ateneo’s School of Government and the Development Studies Department to undertake scoping studies into SRE in education and social protection initiatives in the Philippines. A meeting summary report and information about the next steps will be available shortly. If you want further information, please contact Olivia Wilkinson ([email protected]).
