The Global Interfaith WASH Alliance represents a historic partnership of the world’s faiths alongside civil society, private and governmental sectors in order to provide improved Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in the places that need it the most.

GIWA was launched by UNICEF at UNICEF World Headquarters, under sponsorship of the Government of the Netherlands and USAID, with the understanding that the world’s faiths can play a pivotal role in enabling the survival and improved health of children and adults in the developing world. It does so through the development of networks and partnerships that enable faith leaders to motivate and educate their congregations towards healthier lives. Working alongside faith leaders and other partners, GIWA also serves to provide improved sanitation and health though the provision of eco-friendly toilets and safe water systems.

As a next step in its evolution, the GIWA Academy will launch in order to help FBOs, NGOs, communities and others to build their capacities towards helping to ensure that everyone, everywhere, may have access to healthy and sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene
