How are different communities adapting traditional practices that mark the holy month of Ramadan during the shutdown prompted by the COVID-19 crisis? The COVID-19 pandemic challenges both global health and religious practice gatherings in profound ways, and this has special significance for the observance of Ramadan, which began on April 23 and continues for a month. The stance of religious leaders and institutions affects how people respond to public health guidance and to the social and economic turmoil that accompany the pandemic. Among the questions are how public religious gatherings that traditionally take place during Ramadan are affected. How are the potential loss of public spaces and communal gatherings affecting religious practice? How will faith leaders and communities explain and adapt religious practices for Ramadan in the context of the COVID-19 crisis? How are the most vulnerable being supported?

In this conversation, participants from Muslim communities around the world will explore the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on religious practices and gatherings during Ramadan and the role of faith leadership and communities in adapting these practices.
