The JLI new Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Learning Hub will provide structure and support for learning exchange on MEAL with and for local faith actors. Specifically, the aim of the group will be to consider MEAL between international actors and local faith actors, taking into account existing issues, and aiming to compile good practice examples to be of use to a broad humanitarian and development audience. Learning exchange on MEAL and LFAs: Prof.Mohammed Abu-Nimer at KAICIID
Prof. Mohammed Abu-Nimer is a Senior Advisor at the KAICIID Dialogue Centre and Professor of International Peace and Conflict Resolution at the American University. He served as the Founder and Director of Salam Institute for Peace and Justice, and co-founder of Journal of Peacebuilding and Development. He has worked for over three decades in a number of conflict areas, including: Middle East, Chad, Niger, Mindanao, Sri Lanka, etc., on issues related to conflict resolution; Islamic models of peacebuilding; inter-religious dialogue; civic education; forgiveness and reconciliation; and evaluation of peacebuilding programs. He has published many scholarly books and articles, and his most recent is: Making Peace with Faith (2018).
Mohammed will discuss a forthcoming book, “Evaluating Religious and Interreligious Peacebuilding: Meeting the Challenge.”.The book analysis the current methods of evaluation being utilized by the practitioners, the challenges that evaluators face in the field of religious and interreligious peacebuilding and the ways that these are different from other fields. Furthermore, it addresses the most effective tools and criteria that can be used by evaluators and practitioners to both monitor and evaluate interreligious interventions, as well as the main research themes and gaps that need to be addressed in order to further advance the monitoring and evaluation in the field of interreligious dialogue are also tackled.
