FaithAction is a national network of faith-based and community organisations involved in social action. In many cases these groups are serving their communities by delivering public services such as health and social care.
As part of our work as a Department of Health Voluntary Sector Strategic Partner, we are drawing together the evidence about how faith acts as a ‘setting’ for public health.
We have commissioned a review of evidence around the relationship between faith and public health and social capital, and will be presenting this research at a symposium on 25 September 2014 in London. We will also be inviting others – health academics and health practitioners, as well as representatives of faith communities – to contribute their research or experiences of practice.
We warmly invite you to take part. This will be a relatively small event, enabling us to have a high-quality discussion around questions such as:
- How does faith impact as a variable on health? For example, how does it help or hinder the development of good mental health, or compliance with treatment?
- Does the idea of faith have a part to play in a secular, evidence-based health system?
- How can faith communities act as settings in which health-based work can take place?
Further details and a formal invitation to follow, but please save this date for now. If you would like to make a presentation at the event, please contact Rodie Garland: [email protected] 0845 094 6350
